Wrinkle Relaxers

The facial muscles allow us to express our emotions, but over time repeated movements of these muscles causes lines and wrinkles to occur. In particular we notice they occur around the frown area and the outer corners of the eyes. This can make you look sad or angry, even though you’re anything but.

Wrinkle relaxers are a form of Botulinum toxin and work by temporarily blocking the signals from the nerve endings that make the muscle contract. Overall this reduces the prominence of wrinkles and gives a smoother appearance.

Results can be seen within 2-3 days, usually reaching its full effect by 2 weeks. Although results will vary from person to person, the effects can last around 4 months. As the treatment starts to wear off, the muscle will become more active and the wrinkles will start to reappear. The wrinkles will not be worse than they were prior to treatment.

As with any medical or cosmetic treatment there are potential side effects. There can be bruising, redness and swelling at the site of injection. There can occasionally be drooping of the eyelids and headaches. AITF will discuss all of this in detail with you prior to any treatment.
